Ben Nevis 14yr 46%
Speyside

Nose: Very sherried & robust

Palate: Sherry, vanilla notes

Finish: Oak tannins, spicy, long




Smokehead Extra Black 18yr 40%
Islay

Nose: Peat, grassy, smoke

Palate: Sherry, grassy notes, sweet, bit smoke

Finish: Medium, spicy, butterscotch on the tail





Balvenie Madiera 17yr 46%
Speyside

Nose: Sherried & sweet

Palate: Winey, sherry, sweet, citrus

Finish: Medium, warming





Port Ellen 1982 25yr 46%
Islay

Nose: Peaty and grassy

Palate: Fruitcake, citrus

Finish: Long and spicy





Laphroaig 18yr 48%
Islay

Nose: Peat, light smoke, leather

Palate: Dried fruit, peat, bit smoke

Finish: Long & medicinal. Trademark Laphroaig






Edradour Portwood 25yr 52.5%

Nose: Citrus, oaky

Palate: Port, oak tannins, dried fruit

Finish: Still a bit dried fruit, medium long




Caol Ila Cask Strength nas 61.6%
Islay

Nose: Peat hit followed by a little smoke, leather

Palate: Oily, good smoke hit with a peat chaser

Finish: Long & steady, very warming, spicy

We ended up with the following selection and WOW! the Smokestack Heritage Porter was deceiving in the ‘cartoon” label. We didn’t expect much but was the hit of the night.

Long Trail “Imperial Porter” 8.3%

Vermont


Nose: Dark roast malt, chocolate


Palate: Roasted malt, creamy, bit syrupy


Finish: Smooth






Allagash Black 7.5%

Maine


Nose: Roasted, hop


Palate: Light malt, hops , slightly sweet


Finish: Smooth, bit expresso






Southern Tier “Oat” Oatmeal Stout 11%

New York

2 row pale malt, oats, caramel malt, barley flakes, chocolate malt, black malt, kettle hops: columbus & willamette


Nose: Sweet hops, malt


Palate: Sweet, roasted hops, coffee


Finish: Smooth





Smokestack Heritage Porter


Nose: Bacon, smokey


Palate: Malt, dark chocolate, smoke


Finish: Medium


Th surprise of the evening. Excellent!







High & Mighty “Two Headed Beast” 5.5%

Nose: Dark  roast, chocolate                 


Palate: Chocolate malt


Finish: Fry & quick







Southern Tier “Imperial Creme Brule Stout” 10%

New York


Nose: Caramel, vanilla


Palate: Definite creme brule, very sweet


Finish: Short






North Coast Brewing Co. “Old Rasputin XII “ Twelfth Anniversary Russian Imperial Stout Aged in Bourbon Barrels 11.2% abv
California


Nose: Fresh brewed coffee, plum pudding, stewed fruit, very complex


Palate: Creme brule, caramel, dark cherry, toffee


Finish: Stewed fruit, medium


What an EXCELLENT brew! A bit pricey at $19 for 500ml but worth every penny.
