“A Midsummer Night’s Dram” Tasting 8/19/16

Oban Distillers Edition 15yr 43%

Western Highlands


Nose: Outstanding. Fruity and pungent; Oban’s salty sea breezes, with crushed grapes, orange zest and hints of smoke - massively complex


Palate: Soft malt, then wave upon wave of delicate yet rich fruit notes on a tide of brine


Finish: Sweetened Jamaican coffee and oak, with an attractive malt-biscuit effect as it dies down










Glenglassaugh 30yr 44.8% Speyside


Nose: Rich, complex and full with luxurious tropical fruits of peach, mango and banana,

complimented with sultanas, sherry and gentle oak spice


Palate: Sweet and soft with near perfect balance of fruit; mango, orange, figs and sweet sultanas,

followed by a wave of sherry, toffee and ginger oak spice


Finish: Warm, soft and gently spiced







Longrow Red 11yr Fresh Port Cask 51.8% Campbeltown


Nose: Jammy notes of summer fruit, sweet and vivid. Light notes of earthy peat and tobacco leaf


Palate: Peat develops from the get-go, with hints of oak supporting it. Raisins, currants and sweet port


Finish: Long finish of berry notes and subtle peat








Glendronach 1994 Cask #311 18yr 51.6% Speyside

Lagavulin 8yr 48% Islay


Nose: Goes straight to the shore with mineral and salt, but also sweet, which allows it to be fresh, lively, and yet balanced


Palate: Menthol, bay laurel, more brininess, a hint a malt


Finish: Remains breezy, with peat smoke being blown from a kiln into salt-laden air.










Bowmore Devil’s Cask III nas 56.7% Islay


Nose: Rich, dark, exotic fruits, including sultanas, mangos and raisins, fused with earthy angelica root and treacle toffee


Palate: Smooth, rounded taste of dates, chocolate fudge and salted treacle, warmed by orange laced Aruba coffee


Finish: Long-lasting finish of smoked fruitcake, blood orange and sea salt.

Nose: Fresh, citrus, orange peel, slight yeast undertone


Palate: Fruity, lemon zest, fresh, late hop notes

Founders Backstage “reDANKulous” Imperial Red IPA 9.5% MI


Nose: Bit piney, citrus, hoppy


Palate: Spicy, piney, bit grapefruit, hoppy, late caramel


Finish: Slightly sweet & hoppy













Flying Fish “Baltic Porter”
9.5% NJ


Nose: Malt, toffee, chocolate


Palate: Sweet, roasted malts, bitter chocolate, vanilla, hard root beer


Finish: Slightly burnt, caramel, dark roast, late chocolate notes













The Bruery “Share This” Coffee Imperial Stout 11.9% CA


Nose: Fresh black coffee, chocolate, dark malts


Palate: Good morning black coffee, dark chocolate notes


Finish: Medium length, slightly bitter
