Tasting 3/4/16

Balvenie Triple Cask 16yr 40% abv Speyside


Nose: Subtle with notes of vanilla, honey, and banana.


Palate: Chewy with a good mouthfeel and notes of vanilla, honeycomb, oak tannins, red grapes, and a kiss of smoke.


Finish: Long, smooth, and creamy with touches of banana and vanilla. Excellent.










Glenmorangie Midwinter Night’s Dram nas
43% abv Northern Highlands


Nose: Notes of orange marmalade, toffee, walnuts and mulled wine; tones of wine-soaked fruit, Christmas cake and a distinct whiff of musk or incense.


Palate: A rich, warming, peppery texture leading into myriad flavors of chocolate orange, ginger, walnuts, praline and some sweet butter candy.


Finish: A soft, medium strength, creamy finish, with further notes of malt biscuit and plump raisins.







Dalwhinnie Winter’s Gold nas 43% abv Highlands


Nose: Broad, firm, smooth and clean, yet with a compelling, sweet, honeyed, dessert character. Glimpses of fruit, orange zest, and a smoky note.


Palate: Smoothly honeyed, sweet, with a balancing ripe autumn-fruit tartness. Spicy, with gingerbread, rich malt loaf, suggestions of molasses and mint with late soft, distant smoke.


Finish: Medium long, with sweet malt, raisins and dark chocolate. Late hints of dates and sandalwood.





Ardbeg Supernova nas 54.3% abv Islay


Nose: Deep with smoked chili, soot, vanilla, green banana and linseed, tinned nectarines, cocoa and vanilla.


Palate: Super peaty toffee, crystallized ginger, lime marmalade, star anise, iodine, sweet vanilla and espresso.


Finish: Candied peels and chili.












Longrow Red Pinot Noir 12yr 52.9% abv Campbletown


Nose: Marmalade, strawberry preserve, fruit coulis and orange sherbet, with tobacco smoke.


Palate: More fruit with raspberry jam, and strawberry jam with cream sponge. The whisky has a sweet side too, rich toffee, honeycomb and candy floss.


Finish: Very soft, this Longrow whisky doesn’t disappoint with campfire smoke and charred embers dominating the finish.








Octomore 7.1 Scottish Barley @ 208ppm 5yr 59.9% abv Islay


Nose: Sea spray and caramel, lemon balm and pipe tobacco. Peat smoke, vanilla, mint, toffee, golden syrup and almond.


Palate: Smoothness, sweetness and then smoke. Satin soft and devilishly warming. Vanilla, honey, citrus, sea spray, and leather.


Finish: Fading oak sweetness, briny, then gently fading peat smoke.


Comment: Marvelous

Avery "22" Fermented Dry-Hopped Wild Ale 6% CO


Nose: Hoppy, light spice and fruit.


Palate: Slightly sour, yeasty, and citrus


Finish: Short, with sour orange and malt.













Twisted Pine "Big Shot" Espresso Stout 6% CO



Nose: Roasted coffee and grainy malt aromas.


Palate: Earthy, dark chocolate flavors of the espresso showcase the flawless balance of the beer. It’s rich and strong like a good espresso, creamy and smooth like a good stout. The ultimate breakfast beer.


Finish: Lasting espresso and malt.









Uinta Crooked Line “Port O’Call” Belgian Syle Dark Ale aged in Port Wine Barrels 9.4% UT


Nose: Vinous character blended with toffee and caramel malt notes.


Palate: Distinctly Belgian nose, accenting spicy yeast with hints of clove and banana.


Finish: Medium with a continued wine note and light sweetness.














Bruery" Smoking Wood" Imperial Rye Porter 13% CA



Nose: Toasty oak, caramel, chocolate.


Palate: More vanilla, smokiness, whiskey sweetness, caramel.



Finish: Medium with lingering a sweet bourbon oak note.
